How to Install Software on Windows Loaner Computers

Loaner computers are used on a temporary basis by people who sign them out. Loaners allow application installations using the Company Portal.  Applications that are not available in the Company Portal can be installed using MakeMeAdmin.  This article includes instructions on how to install applications on loaner computers using the Company Portal, as well as through the use of MakeMeAdmin.

How to Install Applications Using the Company Portal

  1. Open the Start menu, then search for the Company Portal app (or select it from the App list).
  2. Open Company Portal then search for the application you want to install. It will download the software over the Internet. It can take sometime to do so.
    • If the application you need isn't available on the Company Portal, it can be requested via the Helpdesk.

How to Install Applications Using MakeMeAdmin

  1. Open the Company Portal from the Start Menu.
  2. Locate the MakeMeAdmin - Setup Loaner Administrator application.
  3. Click the Install or Reinstall button.  This will take a few minutes to process.
  4. Now that MakeMeAdmin has been installed you need to run it so other software installers can then run successfully.  Run MakeMeAdmin using the shortcut located in the Helpful Links folder on the Desktop.
  5. Once open, a window appears saying - Grant Me Administrator Rights, and Remove My Administrator rights. You will need to click on Grant me Administrator Rights to be granted administrator rights.
    • If it says "You are not Authorized to use this application" you will need to rerun steps 1-3.
  6. Now you have administrator permissions on the loaner laptop.  To run your installers successfully just right-click them, then choose Run as administrator.
  7. You will be prompted to provide a user name and password; use your full Middlebury email address and password.

Note:  Administrator rights are removed after 10 minutes.  Any applications left running as an administrator will continue to run that way.
