The Middlebury Institute of International Studies has recommended for you to attend the English Preparation for Graduate Studies Program (EPGS) offered by the English Language School. This program is designed to help you develop important academic skills that will help you succeed in your graduate studies. The Institute has made an important investment in your success. As a result, we strongly recommend that you attend and actively participate in the program. Successful completion of the program involves attending all of the classes and completing the course assignments on time.

Successfully complete the summer English Preparation for Graduate Studies program. To complete this program successfully, you must:1) Maintain a minimum attendance requirement of 80% in all of your classes and; 2) Pass all of your classes with a “B” letter grade or higher.

You have been conditionally admitted to the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. To be fully admitted into your graduate degree program, you must successfully place into 300-level or above (graduate level) English for Academic & Professional Purposes (EAPP) courses. To comply with the terms of your admittance, you must agree to the following:

Successfully place into 300-level or above (graduate level) English for Academic & Professional Purposes (EAPP) courses.

All incoming Graduate School of International Policy & Management students take written and oral English language placement exams during graduate program orientation. You will receive the results of your exams from your academic adviser during orientation.

Translation and Interpretation and TESOL program students are not required to take EAPP courses. Please note: Should you fail to place into 300-level or above English for Academic & Professional Purposes courses, you will be required to take non-degree English language courses at an additional expense until you reach the required proficiency level for your graduate program.

Additional Information About EPGS:

EPGS is an academic English preparation program. The program lasts for six weeks.

Non-scholarship students are required to pay the full cost of tuition, which is $4,700 for incoming Translation and Interpretation students and $4,500 for all other incoming graduate students.

For Summer Language Scholarship recipients, the full cost of the EPGS program tuition is covered by the scholarship.

Students are required to pay for all additional costs of attendance: course books, and course supplies.
