Workshop with Renee Wells pt 1: Acknowledging and Unpacking the Dynamics of Harm: Thursday, September 30, 12-2 pm
Harm happens in every community. How harm is understood varies according to our critical awareness of the ways identity, power, and privilege impact how we interact with each other. This workshop will explore the importance of being able to recognize, name, and address harm when it happens and will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss the way differences in power and privilege impact how we approach and experience conversations about harm and ways we can be intentional about not reinforcing dynamics that hinder conversation or cause harm. (Part of a 3-part series. You may attend any or all of these events.)
Workshop with Renee Wells pt 2: Common Language and Shared Goals: A Community Conversation about Culture Change: Thursday, October 21, 12-2 pm
Students, staff, faculty, and administrators on campuses across the country are grappling with the work that needs to be done in higher ed to dismantle systemic barriers to access, opportunity, equity, and belonging. It can be hard to move the needle in terms of institutional change if we aren't on the same page about the language we're using and the goals we're working towards. This workshop will provide an opportunity to dig into the language of power, privilege, racism, anti-racism, and white supremacy, to explore how these concepts manifest in higher ed settings, and to map out goals with respect to changing campus culture in a way that aspires to foster greater access, opportunity, equity, and belonging, particularly for historically excluded and minoritized communities. (Part of a 3-part series. You may attend any or all of these events.)

Nearby Nature: Refresh Yourself by Tuning In to the World Around You with Katie Dutcher: Tuesday, November 2, 12-1:00 pm
There’s a reason that people are drawn to vacation by the beach or in the woods… Spending time outdoors is a powerful way to reconnect with yourself while reconnecting with the world around you. There’s so much aliveness and beauty in the natural world that we almost can’t help but be present and mindful! In this workshop, discover the research that demonstrates how the natural world soothes, heals, and refreshes us; take time to experience the “nearby nature” right outside your door; and learn simple practices that you can take with you to cultivate mindfulness in nature. Please join the meeting from the place in nature you would like to explore. Dial-in information will be provided in advance of the event.
Workshop with Renee Wells pt 3: Responding to Harm: Fostering a Culture of Accountability within Communities: Thursday, November 11, 12-2 pm
Harm happens in every community, usually unintentionally. Each of us causes harm and experiences harm. We also witness harm in a wide variety of contexts. Being able to take accountability when we cause harm and to speak up when we witness harm is critical to creating a community culture that aspires to increase inclusion and belonging. This workshop will provide an opportunity to increase our capacity to recognize harm when it happens and to engage in a way that is responsive to its impact, both as witnesses to harm and as individuals who cause it. (Part of a 3-part series. You may attend any or all of these events.)
