International Education Management Specialization

Broaden your expertise and open up additional career avenues in education by adding this 15-credit International Education Management (IEM) specialization.

Career Outcomes

The IEM specialization prepares you for careers in key areas of international education, including roles with the following responsibilities:

  • manage programs and projects to support scholarships, study abroad, or other educational programs
  • design and assess intercultural and globally-focused learning experiences
  • advise on program selection, resources, visa regulations, or other opportunities
  • navigate educational contexts and policies at the institutional, social, and individual levels
  • promote and encourage partnerships, collaboration, and cross-cultural exchange

Curriculum

The curriculum for this 15-credit specialization integrates experiential, practical, and theory-based courses. Depending on your course selection, the specialization can be completed in a single fall semester or incorporated over multiple semesters during your degree program. Requirements include the following courses:

  • Principles and Practices of International Education (3 credits)
  • Any three of the following core IEM courses:
    • International Education Marketing, Recruitment, and Enrollment Management (3 credits)
    • International Education Program Design  (3 credits)
    • International Education Assessment (3 credits)
    • Managing People and Resources in Cross-Cultural Contexts (3 credits)
    • Social Issues, Justice, and Change in International Education (3 credits)
  • IEM elective(s) (3 credits)

Elective courses can include any additional IEM courses (including more core courses) as well as IEM project courses, which may have some pre-requisites. You will work with the IEM career and academic advisor to plan your course selection around your career goals, skill areas, and existing requirements for your graduate degree.
